2019 HSBC volunteer of the year

2018 winner: Ian Frame

“It was a great honour to win the HSBC Volunteer of the Year award as it highlighted how our clubs needs dedicated volunteers to help the growth of rugby at a grassroots level. This is especially important for ensuring young adults stay involved in the game.

“As a result of winning the award and the recognition from this, we have had a surge of younger players join our committee this season who truly understand the needs and situation of our players and are working hard to provide a safe and enjoyable environment so that we continue to prosper in our community.

“The $10,000 grant from HSBC has enabled the club to purchase specially designed jerseys and match balls to help us celebrate our 60th season this year. The funds also allowed us to donate our older jerseys to communities in need in Australia and in the Pacific Islands. Furthermore, we have also been able to invest in much needed repairs on our scrum machine.”

2017 winner: Peter Kurtz

“Winning the HSBC Volunteer of the Year award has put the sport and the club centre stage in Biloela.

It has been given a tremendous boost, leading to interest from new sponsors and a stream of new players joining.

It really is an overwhelming feeling and it has to be said that I wouldn’t have the same achievements without the support of the committee.”
