NSW Rugby Development Officers
Full Time, Part Time
Central Coast and Central North/New England

The role exists to increase the number of Rugby players in NSW by providing the necessary education and support of Clubs, Schools, Coaches and Match Officials as well as appropriate recruitment and retention programs. Development Officers will work across three key focus areas;

  1. To connect clubs and schools whist building relationships to grow the game and improve the quality of coaching and training environments, both at junior rugby clubs and schools, through education, club engagement initiatives and competitions.
  2. Support junior clubs with the recruitment and retention of players specifically at primary age as well as, coaches and match officials across all facets of the game. Converting participants into regular rugby players from programs or gala days.
  3. Deliver programs and provide opportunities that enhance, support and build our rugby communities

Success in this role will result in;

  • A greater number of people playing and staying in rugby clubs across NSW.
  • Higher quality of coaching, training environments and match officials at junior clubs and schools
  • An increased number of schools playing in XV’s and Rugby 7s competitions, while developing strong connections from schools to Rugby Clubs resulting in more junior rugby players in NSW.
  • Improved sentiment of the game

Overview of Tasks

Recruitment Programs & Events

  • Deliver Rugby recruitment programs and events for schools, that ensure connection with a club or school competition
  • Plan in conjunction with their local Zone/Affiliates/NSWRU the yearly, monthly and weekly Development strategy.
  • Proactively work with clubs/zones/affiliates to recruit new participants and drive further rugby opportunities and connections with Clubs or school competitions.
  • Manage and develop a group of Casual Development Officers to deliver recruitment programs and events.
  • Promote, plan and manage Touch 7s, Get into Rugby Club and School Programs as well as new regular Competitions with clubs and private providers where appropriate.

Build Community Relationships

  • Build relationships and a contact database with clubs and schools to drive recruitment programs through schools and connection to clubs.
  • Create or strengthen partnerships between Junior Clubs and their local primary, secondary schools or tertiary institutions.
  • Work with Junior District / Zone and Premier Club to develop a recruitment plan for the District.
  • Work with local school associations to establish rugby opportunities and introduce / build schools rugby competitions.

Retention

  • Work with Junior District / Zone and Premier Club to develop a retention plan for the District.
  • Work with individual clubs to develop tailored retention plan.
  • Work with the Junior competitions managers to work directly with junior rugby clubs on tailored retention strategies
  • Work with Coach Development Manager to develop a coach education plan to support schools, clubs, districts and zones.
  • Attend junior rugby events as required

Promotion & Administration

  • Contribute relevant material for NSW Social Media Channels.
  • Keep accurate participation records, write programme evaluations and provide monthly reports on all participation and recruitment activities undertaken.

Coach and Match Official Education

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of the coach and match official education programmes in your region
  • Market courses and seminars to clubs, schools, parents, new coaches, established coaches or high-level coaches
  • Provide coaches and referees with latest resources and information through your relationship with the Coach Development team.
  • Assist NSWRU meet its Coach Education and Development KPIs (Smart Rugby, Accreditations, Mentoring)

Positive Rugby Foundation & NSWRU Initiatives

  • Support the delivery of programs into development activities
  • Actively support community and well-being activities by engaging clubs, schools and community groups to deliver and support programs

General

  • Assist in the match day Operations of the NSW Waratahs.
  • Other duties as determined by the General Manager
