Assistant Accountant

Rugby Australia (Rugby AU), the governing body of Rugby Union in Australia, is looking for an astute Assistant Accountant. The role will support the Finance Manager and accounting team responsible for servicing Rugby Australia and its related entities.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

Revenue & Expenses Recording

  • Manage reconciliations between finance system, bank, and external systems
  • Assist in the review of expense claims – accuracy of coding and calculations
  • Raising invoices and maintenance of the accounts receivable email box
  • Manage accurate recording of specific supplier accounts – especially those involving Contra.

Transitional Accounting

  • General Ledger reconciliations
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Journal entries
  • Bank account management
  • Contra reconciliations and recognition
  • Hospitality accounting and reconciliations
  • Fixed Asset Register maintenance
  • Licensing – accounting and reconciliations
  • Betting revenue – accounting and reconciliations
  • Travel – accounting and reconciliations
  • Stadium settlements
  • Reconciliation of the RA Corporate Credit Card
  • Assist AP duties when required (e.g., During periods of absence or if challenged to meet month end deadline).


  • Monitor and report daily cash flow
  • Update ledgers for Rugby Australia’s subsidiaries as required. Provide monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, and variance analysis reports.
  • Assist with producing regular internal and external financial reports.

System Administration

  • System administrator for NetSuite
  • Corporate credit card online system administrator.

To be successful you will need:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications
  • Minimum two years in similar role and ideally have worked in AP or AR
  • Netsuite skills
  • Excel (intermediate level)
  • Word/Outlook
  • B/S reconciliations experience
  • Journal entries experience
  • BAS reporting experience
  • Experience reporting to B/S stage
  • Foreign currency accounting skill
  • Commercial acumen
  • Time management
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Attention to detail.
