Broadcast Manager – Rugby Australia

Rugby Australia (Rugby AU), the governing body of Rugby Union in Australia, is looking for an experienced Broadcast Manager.

This role will assist in the management of Broadcast (where referenced, Broadcast includes streaming, production, distribution,and archive asset management) contracts, and operates the key point of contact,and serve as the interface between Rugby AU, its stakeholders, and its Broadcaster Rights Holders.

Moreover, this role will require a focus on creating a strong long-term relationship with Broadcast partners, innovation and process around the relationship and product, and assist in communicating the broadcaster’s needs and demands to the rest of Rugby AU and its stakeholders(including with SANZAAR, Super Rugby Clubs and Team Wallaby).

The role will have primary responsibility for the broadcast management and delivery of the Shute Shield and Hospital Cup competitions. The role will be a key interface between NSWRU, QRU, Clubs, broadcast streaming providers and the Broadcast Rights Holder.

The role will also play a lead role regarding the Rugby AU’s digital archive including digitisation, ingestion, metadata management and distribution of assets as required.

Key responsibilities for this role:

Broadcast Management

  • Assist in the management of the Broadcast Partners(including NEC)to ensure contractual entitlements are delivered and leverage plans are maximised for mutually agreed KPIs and objectives.
  • Be a key point of contact for the Broadcasters and in being so, managing the needs of the Broadcasters and the account.
  • Attend regular WIPs or wider work group meetings with the Broadcasters, internal Rugby AU working groups and associated stakeholders to ensure all parties are engaged, educated on Rugby AU business plans and all additional promotional opportunities are explored.
  • Assist in the management of client interaction and build strong long-term relationships.
  • Assist in driving strategy innovation and process around relationship and product.
  • Assisting the distribution of product information to the Broadcasters and internal Rugby AU stakeholders.
  • Work with the Professional Rugby Department around optimising schedule and draws for Super Rugby and Test matches.
  • Bethe Broadcast point person for Member Unions as required.
  • Work with the Rugby AU leads in other broadcast workstreams including Commercial and Marketing around the Broadcasters.
  • Assist with the development of the post-event reports, year-end Broadcaster workshops with Rugby AU internal departments based on the requirements outlined in the broadcaster contracts.
  • Assist in the management of RugbyAU Broadcast Partners’contracts to ensure all entitlements are delivered in a timely manner.

Club Rugby & Streaming

  • Primary responsibility for the management and delivery of the streaming and production of Shute Shield (NSW) and Hospital Cup (Qld).
  • Management of the streaming service provider/s for the Shute Shield and Hospital Cup including the Service Level Agreement.
  • Central point of contact with Broadcast Rights Holders, NSWRU and QRU regarding the streaming operations and production of Shute Shield and Hospital Cup.
  • Budget management regarding the streaming operation and delivery.
  • Responsible for conducting regular WIP meetings with key stakeholders associated with the delivery of the Shute Shield and Hospital Cup including NSWRU, QRU, streaming service provider and the Broadcast Rights Holders.
  • Manage the commentary bookings for the Hospital Cup and Shute Shield matches.
  • Work with other stakeholders regarding the competition scheduling for the Hospital Cup and Shute Shield in consultation with the NSWRU, QRUand BroadcastRights Holders
  • Working in collaboration with the General Manager – Technology, manage the national footprint strategy and engagement with other states regarding the centralised service provision for the streaming services of their Premier Rugby competition including ACT, Victoria, WA, SA, Tasmania, and Northern Territory.
  • Quality control of all Rugby AU live streams as well as liaising with Rugby AUMarCommsteam around consistent look and feel.
  • Liaise with Rugby AU’sMarCommsteam regarding use of marketing contra and to ensure all owned streams are promoted and receive Member Union support.
  • Manage future content delivery from broadcasters to Rugby AU Digital Network and internal stakeholders.

Archives

  • Manage quality control of Rugby AU’s Archive to ensure highest possible file formats for entire catalogue 
  • Training Broadcasters how to use Rugby AU DAM.
  • Manage relationship and delivery of assets from third parties (including Preferred Media, Inverleigh,and IMG) Improving information in current catalogue, identifying gaps and sourcing assets to complete Archive.
  • Manage Rugby AUs digital archive including digitisation, ingestion, metadata management and distribution of assets as required.
  • Point person for digitisation of archive.

To be successful, you will need to have:

  • Relevant Tertiary Education
  • 4 – 8 years’ experience in a similar role including detailed understanding of broadcast production streaming and content delivery
  • File format/Frame Rate/ Bit Rate knowledge
  • Computer literate – Demonstrated excellence in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point and Excel
