The Australian Rugby refereeing team continues to receive high accolades on the World stage with Amy Perrett selected for her second Women’s Rugby World Cup alongside up and coming official, Graham Cooper.
The pair will head to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in August and will join the nine-referee panel for the tournament that kicks off in Dublin in August.
Perrett, considered by many to be the best female official in the game, has continued her rise through the professional Rugby ranks after becoming the first female Super Rugby Assistant Referee in 2016.
This was after Perrett was given the honour of refereeing the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup Final between England and Canada in France.
Australia’s top official, Angus Gardner, will join the refereeing team for the British & Irish Lions Tour of New Zealand in June and July.
Gardner will referee two tour matches including the Highlanders taking on the Lions in Dunedin on Saturday 13 June, and a match with a combined invitational New Zealand side.
Gardner will then head to South Africa to officiate the third Test between the Springboks and France in Johannesberg on Saturday 24 June.
George Ayoub will be the Television Match Official for all three of New Zealand’s Tests against the British & Irish Lions, such is the esteem held for Australia’s veteran referee.
ARU Head of Referees Scott Young said: “As a team, we are continuing to develop on the world stage and get more world class referees through the pipeline to represent Australia.
“Angus and George’s involvement in the British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand is a testament to the high regard that they are held and I know they will represent Australian Rugby well throughout the tour.
“Amy Perrett and Graham Cooper will have the unique experience of officiating in a World Cup environment where there will be the pressure on all officials to get it right under the scrutiny of World Cup conditions.”
Former Queensland Reds scrumhalf, Nic Berry will head to the World Rugby U20s Championship in Georgia in June, continuing the former player’s graduation from the playing field to the man with the whistle.
