In a first for the code, Rugby Australia is welcoming applications from Australian-based charities to become Rugby’s new Official Charity Partner.

The proposed three-year partnership will reap major benefits for the charity partner including international exposure and exclusive opportunities and offers to support their fundraising efforts.

Rugby Australia Chief Executive Raelene Castle said: ‘’This is a unique opportunity for a charitable organisation to tap into a new community and leverage their brand, and most importantly a chance for Rugby Australia and the Rugby community to get behind a worthy cause.’’

The new charity partner will link with Rugby Australia’s current community partners including the Gingercloud Foundation, Disability Sports Australia, Pride in Sport, the Australian Deaf Rugby Team, Our Watch and the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development team.

‘’We’ve been fortunate to partner with some fantastic charities over the years and we are looking forward to seeing the response from Australian charity groups to the application process and getting to work with a great new partner with great,’’ said Castle.

Registration is now open opens and Rugby Australia will be seeking a charity partner who aligns with the game’s core values and vision to ‘’make Rugby a game for all.’’

The selection panel will include three Rugby Australia representatives, including one Rugby Australia Board Director, and two national team players including Qantas Wallabies prop Tom Robertson and Australian Women’s Sevens star Emilee Cherry.

Qantas Wallaby Tom Robertson said: ‘’It’s great that we can use Rugby as a vehicle to raise the profile and drive fund funds for a new charity. ‘’We know that our fans are incredibly supportive when it comes to welcoming new people and orgnisations into the Rugby family so I’m confident it will be a successful partnership,’’ said Robertson.
