The Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team have secured a place in the quarter finals with victory over Ireland (27-5), Spain (31-14) and Canada (27-14) in Pool B, in the final round of the HSBC Women’s Sevens World Series in Biarritz on Sunday morning.

Australia will face the best third place finisher from the Pools at 7.00pm on Sunday 16 June as the Aussie 7s battle to progress to the top four in the final round of the HSBC Women’s Sevens World Series.

Australia is still the hunt for a top four Series finish that would ensure automatic qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Emma Tonegato and Charlotte Caslick led the way for her country with 4 tries a piece, supported by Evania Pelite and Ellia Green who both scored valuable tries for their country.

Australia’s returning veteran, Shannon Parry played her first International since the first round of the series in Glendale, having battelled ankle and shoulder injuries and proved that she hadn’t missed a beat in her absence.

Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens Head Coach, John Manenti said: “It was a great effort by the squad today to make the quarter finals against strong opposition.

“France, Ireland and Canada all highlighted different challenges, but the team stood up well to them to ensure progression.

“Emma Tonegato, Charlotte Caslick and Evania Pelite had strong performances today and it was great to see Shannon back out on the park.

“We have a big day two tomorrow and the job is no where near done, we are focused on the ask at hand and looking forward to the hard work coming at us for the last day of this year’s season.”

Day two quarter finals will be broadcast LIVE on World Rugby’s Digital channels.
