UQ & USYD emerge as finals favourites

Both the University of Queensland and the University of Sydney have emerged as finals favourites following day one of the 2019 Aon University 7s Series.

The University of Sydney was defeated in the final play of the day, going down to UTS 19-15 in a tightly contested match.

Meanwhile, the University of Queensland suffered a loss to 2018 competition champions, Griffith University in a round three upset.

In other matches, Bond University opened their day one campaign with a shock win over Griffith University seeing them secure their place in the middle of Pool A.

While the University of Canberra ambushed round one runner up UTS with a 29-5 victory starting their round two campaign on a high. The side also went onto defeat the University of Melbourne seeing them in a strong position for finals contention.

Teams will return to Bond University in the morning for their final pool matches ahead of the finals later in the afternoon.

Day two of the 2019 Aon University Sevens will be broadcast LIVE on RUGBY.com.au with Bond University scheduled to take on the University of New England at 9.00 am.
