New South Wales 1 have emerged as favourites in the 2019 National Youth Boys Sevens Championship after an undefeated campaign on day one.

The reigning champions took down Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory at Sunshine Coast Stadium, securing their place at the top of the ladder.

Competition hosts, Queensland 1 have also cemented their first-place ranking in the 2019 Aon Youth Girls Championship following convincing wins over the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia in the pool stages.

Ranking matches will commence tomorrows proceedings with South Australia taking on Tasmania in the Youth Boys while South Australia will take to the field against National Indigenous in the Youth Girls.

Rugby Australia’s Talent Development & Recruitment Manager - Rugby Sevens, Hugh Carpenter said: “We’ve seen several high-quality matches today, and we’re excited by what tomorrow will bring.

“While some matches have been quite one-sided, we have also seen some close contests which has paved the way for some tightly contested ranking matches tomorrow morning.

“Following this we will look to finalise our National Youth Sevens sides that will head to the World Schools 7's in Auckland in December.”

Every match of the Youth Sevens Championship will be streamed LIVE on RUGBY.com.au
