Builders and Bulldozers

Description

Divide participants into two teams: 'Builders' and 'Bulldozers'.

In a grid, scatter cones so that half are positioned upside down.

On the Coach's signal, 'Builders' must attempt to flip all cones to be the right way up, whilst 'Bulldozers' attempt to flip the cones to be upside down.

At the conclusion, the Coach will count the number of 'built' and 'bulldozed' cones to determine a winner.

Equipment
  • 24 x cones

Coaching Outcome

Participants develop spatial awareness, agility, and learn to move confidently into space in this fun and competitive activation game.

Change It
  • Alter the size of the playing grid so that participants have less or more room to move.
  • On the signal, "swap”, participants change roles with 'Builders' becoming 'Bulldozers', and 'Bulldozers' becoming 'Builders'.
  • Encourage participants to involve their parents, guardians or siblings in the Activation to create a fun, whole-of-club experience.

Check for Understanding
  • How do we make sure that we do not run into other players when playing ‘Builders and Bulldozers’?
  • Should we bend at the waist or squat at the hips when ‘building’ or ‘bulldozing’ cones?
  • What skills are we learning when playing this game that we can use when playing Rugby?
