Rugby Australia’s Strategy has set out clear performance targets across all areas of the game. For women’s high performance specifically, there are four key objectives:

  • Win a medal in LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympics
  • Compete on final weekend at Women’s Rugby World Cup 2029
  • Improve overall win rate for all teams in gold to 70% by 2029
  • Win all Super Rugby Women’s titles

Purpose

Rugby Australia is seeking a Women’s Rugby Technical Director to manage the technical evolution of our national programs. This role drives the technical direction and performance standards for both the Australian Women’s Sevens and the Wallaroos to ensure the achievement of strategic international performance objectives.

Central to this position is player management across both formats to ensure players are available and in optimal condition and form for pinnacle events.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage the technical direction across the Australian Women’s Sevens and Wallaroos programs.
  • Manage the recruitment, retention and management of players across both formats to ensure the best athletes are in optimal condition and form for pinnacle events.
  • Facilitate the collaborative development and delivery of National Campaign plans and game plans / models and Individual Player Development Plans in consultation with the respective Head Coaches.
  • Manage the development of a full-time co-located high performance program for both 7s and 15s, designed to close key performance gaps, utilising an integrated delivery and resourcing model where beneficial.
  • Oversee line management for all Women’s National Team coaching personnel.
  • Oversee and enhance the high performance daily training environment, standards and expectations across both formats.
  • Manage review processes of Australian Women’s Sevens and Wallaroos programs.
  • Women’s Rugby representative on Rugby Australia’s High Performance Rugby Committee and National Contracting Panel.
  • Close engagement with key stakeholders including Super Rugby Clubs, the Australian Institute of Sport and State Institute of Sport network on rugby performance.

Capabilities & Experience
  • Extensive coaching experience in high performance 15s and 7s rugby, ideally in women’s rugby.
  • High level of technical rugby understanding and capability.
  • Strong leadership capabilities in high pressure environments, with the ability to maintain performance standards while managing competing priorities.
  • Expertise in building rapport and nurturing positive relationships with elite female athletes to support their rugby and holistic development.
  • Exceptional communication and people management skills, focused on collaborating with and leveraging diverse stakeholder relationships.
