About the role  

Rugby World Cup Australia is excited to announce an opportunity for a Digital Marketing Specialist to join our Sydney-based team. Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, you will drive innovative campaigns that connect fans worldwide. In this role, you’ll lead integrated digital strategies across social, paid media, and owned channels, ensuring every touchpoint reflects the excitement of the tournament. From managing website and app engagement to delivering impactful advertising and optimising performance, you’ll be at the heart of fan communications. Collaborating with creative teams, agencies, and internal stakeholders, you’ll craft content that inspires, informs, and converts. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Lead integrated digital marketing campaigns across social, paid and owned channels to maximise ticket sales and support key tournament objectives. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, Ticketing, Platforms and agency partners to ensure consistency across all digital and fan communication touchpoints. 
  • Manage and optimise RWC 2027 website and app content, including push notifications and pop‑up strategies aligned to major milestones. 
  • Plan, execute and optimise digital advertising, including KPI setting, performance tracking, insights and recommendations. 
  • Oversee digital content planning and creative asset development across all platforms, ensuring alignment with commercial, fan and brand objectives. 
  • Support fan communications, direct marketing strategy, customer journey mapping and broader stakeholder communication plans. 
  • Contribute to marketing operations including budget management, reporting and cross‑functional support as a key member of the Marketing & Communications team reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager. 

 

Qualifications & Experience 
  • 5+ years’ experience in digital marketing or digital analytics, ideally within sport, entertainment, major events or similarly fast‑paced industries. 
  • Deep hands-on expertise in core digital channels, with a particular focus on social media, paid media, SEO/SEM, and email/CRM. 
  • Highly data‑driven marketer with proven ability to interpret performance data, extract insights and make informed decisions that drive commercial and fan outcomes. 
  • Strong reporting and analytics capability, including measuring digital channel performance, building dashboards, and delivering insights in a clear, compelling presentation format. 
  • Advanced understanding of paid digital ecosystems, including Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, programmatic and audience targeting strategies. 
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, collaborating effectively with internal teams, agencies, platforms and commercial partners. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate ideas, insights and recommendations confidently. 
  • Proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused, thriving in a dynamic, high-profile environment with shifting priorities and fast turnarounds. 
  • Desirable experience: CMS management, marketing automation tools, CRM systems, customer journey mapping, creative briefing, fan engagement platforms, and knowledge of privacy compliance.

Rugby World Cup is one of the biggest sporting and entertainment brands in the world and the dual men’s and women’s hosting model creates a transformative opportunity to showcase the very best of rugby and Australia to an unprecedented global audience.

RWC 2027 tournament will be a nationwide celebration of the sport, its values and Australia’s cities, culture and people, engaging new audiences and inspiring a new generation of fans and players. In Australia, the tournament is expected to generate $1.3B in direct visitor expenditure across Australia from more than 250,000 international visitors and inject a further $80m into the Australia economy as a result of hosting in 2027 alone.

Whilst the LOC has carriage of both the 2027 and 2029 RWC’s, all roles are being recruited on the basis of working to deliver 2027, with a contract end date reflective of the successful conclusion of 2027. All roles within the LOC will be reviewed at the appropriate point in time to determine whether they will be extended to cover 2029 and to suit the needs of the business at that time.
