Rugby Australia (Rugby AU) the governing body of Rugby Union in Australia, is looking for an experienced Head of Community Legacy Project to manage and implement the Rugby World Cup (RWC) Community Legacy strategy for Rugby Australia (Rugby AU), in conjunction with Rugby AU’s Rugby World Cup team and Member Unions.

The role will be required to lead all major projects to be delivered under Rugby AU’s RWC Community Legacy Framework. This will include the management of project teams, contractual outcomes from funding agreements, project tracking, budget management and reporting of deliverables. It will be critical to engage and build relationships with several key stakeholders, including but not limited to World Rugby, the Local Organizing Committee (once formed), Federal & State Government, Member Unions, Clubs, Associations, Commercial Partners, and internal staff to improve the ability of Rugby AU to execute the objectives of the Legacy strategy.

Key responsibilities for this role:

Project Management

  • Develop project management plans for all major projects to be delivered within Rugby AU’s RWC Community Legacy Framework.
  • Lead the project teams and work with Member Unions on the delivery of Rugby AU’s Rugby World Cup Legacy initiatives.
  • Develop and implement reporting systems to track progress of programs delivered
  • Oversee the process of undertaking evaluations to measure, quantify and articulate benefits and inform planning for future projects.
  • Effectively manage the financial position of all projects. manage and monitor budget by tracking and approving expenditures, control costs, validate expenses and anticipate and correct forecasting errors.
  • Assess, record, and accurately communicate project risks to relevant stakeholders.

Strategy

  • Oversee the development and implementation of Rugby AU’s RWC Community Legacy Strategy in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Build and contribute to influential and long-term partnerships with a range of external government stakeholders (in conjunction with Rugby AU’s External Relations team), community organizations, Rugby bodies, and not-for-profits that enhance the strategic goals of Rugby AU and Rugby AU’s RWC Legacy.
  • Work with other major professional sports in Australia to identify opportunities to build on the existing Legacy Framework.

People Management

  • Foster a working environment that inspires the project teams to succeed.
  • Provide appropriate timely performance feedback to employees (critically constructive).

Marketing/Communications

  • Assist in the development of campaigns, publications, presentations, and online media communication that drive outcomes related to RWC Community Legacy projects.

Commercial

  • Assist in the unlocking of new and diverse revenue streams.
  • Assist in the development of a strong and engaged portfolio of sponsors and other financial partners.
  • Develop and expand non-commercial partners’ (governments, international agencies) investment.

To be successful, you will need to have:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in sports administration, business, or event management.
  • Previous experience in managing a budget.
  • Previous experience in managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in the strategic planning process.
  • Experience in negotiation.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with community, sporting, government, not-for-profits on D&I initiatives.
  • Education and/or qualifications relevant to Business, Events or Sport Management.
  • Demonstrated high level project management skills, including an ability to analyse, plan, monitor, evaluate and prioritize.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with proven experience and strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve sensitive and critical issues internally and externally at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated ability to think, plan and mobilise others to act strategically.

Desirable

  • Post Graduate qualification.
  • Experience in Rugby and/or Sport, particularly at the grass roots or customer level.
  • Experience in leading other World Cup or major event legacy programs for International Federations or National Sporting Organizations and/or Governments (either internationally or in Australia).
