The Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens team has fallen at the quarter final stages of the HSBC Dubai Sevens, going down to Samoa 14-19.

On day one, Australia went undefeated, accounting for Scotland, Ireland and the USA to ensure Australia topped Pool B. The quarter final saw an emotional Samoan team overcome the gold jersey in a physical clash, that left Australia frustrated on not making the top four.

The Aussie Men’s Sevens will re-group ahead of the second round of the Series in Cape Town next weekend.

Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens Head Coach, Tim Walsh said: “We had a good opening two days and I was impressed with the whole squad in making sure we topped our pool.

“Against Samoa two contrasting styles hit each other and it came down to who could nullify the other’s attack. We had our chances and winning Sevens means taking those chances and Samoa were able to do that today.

“We’ll get into our recovery and make sure we bounce back stronger for Cape Town in round two.”
