Rugby Australia is delighted to confirm plans to launch a new Australian Rugby Museum, following support from private enterprise.

The Museum is set to house priceless items of Australian Rugby’s history as well as hail iconic moments in the game’s past.

It will be a celebration of the game in Australia across every level with items from club rugby competitions as well as relics from Australia’s first-ever national side, including pieces dating back to the late 19th century when Rugby was introduced Down Under.

Rugby Australia Chairman Hamish McLennan said: “This is another fantastic day for Australian Rugby, and I’m delighted to unveil the plans for this marvellous Museum.

“I want to make particular mention of David Harrison. He’s an incredibly successful businessman and already contributed so much to Australian Rugby. I’m delighted to confirm that David will be the Chairman of new Museum Board – he’s a perfect fit and it is fitting recognition for his service to the game.

“Rugby has such a proud history in Australia, in fact, it boasts the longest running rivalry in Australian sport between active teams, with Queensland and New South Wales still providing epic encounters.

“The game’s heritage will now be on display for young and old and celebrated for eternity,” McLennan said.

Charter Hall Managing Director David Harrison said: “I’m so thrilled to be involved in the formation of an Australian Rugby Museum and celebrating the game’s history.

“I’m such a proud supporter of the game in Australia and this Museum is a perfect way to commemorate our history and recognise our exciting future,” Harrison said.

The plans will continue to be developed in the coming months with a venue to be announced in the future.
