Rugby Australia has announced Friday's Buildcorp Super W Round 6 match between the Western Force and Melbourne Rebels has been postponed due to COVID-19 impacts on the Rebels’ squad.

The match will be rescheduled, with details still to be confirmed, with no impact on the upcoming finals series.

The postponement was a collective decision made by both teams in conjunction with Rugby Australia’s Return To Play Committee due to the Rebels managing a number of COVID-19 positive cases.

It was agreed by all parties that postponing the match was the best option to ensure the safety and wellbeing of players and staff.

Rugby Australia CEO Andy Marinos said: “It’s a disappointing decision for all involved but our number one priority is the health and wellbeing of our players and staff.

“While the decision to postpone won’t impact the finals series which kicks off next week, it is important the Western Force and Melbourne Rebels still have the opportunity to play the final match of their season.

“We will continue to work with both teams to ensure the game can be rescheduled as soon as possible.”
