Bugs and Spiders

Description

Assemble a grid within a larger grid and divide participants into two teams, 'Bugs' and 'Spiders'. Group the 'Bugs' within the small grid, and ask the 'Spiders' to spread out within the larger grid. On the Coach's signal, the 'Bugs' must leave the smaller grid and attempt to exit the larger grid before being tagged by a 'Spider'. If tagged, the 'Bug' becomes a 'Spider'. Repeat the process until all 'Bugs' have been tagged before swapping teams.

Equipment
  • 12 x cones

Coaching Outcome

Participants develop spatial awareness, agility and learn to move confidently in this fun and competitive evasion game.

Change It
  • Develop ball familiarity by asking 'Bugs' to carry a ball in two hands.
  • On the signal, "swap”, participants change roles with 'Spiders' becoming 'Bugs'.
  • Alter the size of the grid.

Check for Understanding
  • How can we avoid being tagged by the ‘Spiders’?
  • What part of the body should we look at when trying to tag the ‘Bugs’?
  • What can we do to ensure that we do not run into other participants?
