Footy Flags

Description

Assemble a grid with four different coloured lines of cones, and scatter balls throughout. Participants lie on their stomachs along one line of the grid. On the Coach's signal participants get to their feet and race to collect a ball. The Coach will then call a colour, prompting participants with a ball to aim to score a try on the corresponding coloured line. Participants that do not collect a ball become defenders and must attempt to tag those participants with a ball before they score a try.

Equipment
  • 12 x cones
  • 5 x balls

Coaching Outcome

Participants learn to listen, anticipate, and react to coaching cues, and develop their evasion skills in this fun and competitive game.

Change It
  • Alter the size of the grid, with a larger grid more challenging for participants.
  • Change the colour call to test participants listening and reaction skills.
  • Reduce the number of balls available within the grid.

  • How do we get to our feet quickly?
  • When lying on the ground, where should we be looking?
  • Why is listening and reacting important when playing Rugby?
