What is Get into Rugby?

Get into Rugby is the official entry-level program for kids turning 4 - 7 years and has been purposefully designed to ensure that every participant's first experience in rugby is a positive and meaningful one.

What is the difference between Get into Rugby Walla and Get into Rugby Tri Time?

Get into Rugby offers two age-based streams to ensure that participants are provided with developmentally appropriate environments in which to learn the fundamental movement and core skills of rugby.

Get into Rugby Walla is recommended for participants turning 4 - 5 years and involves small-sided games and activities designed to introduce participants to the basic movements and skills of Rugby.

Get into Rugby Tri Time is recommended for participants turning 6 - 7 years and continues participants' core skill development whilst also introducing contact-readiness activities and modified Tri Tag Rugby to prepare participants for junior rugby.

How do I find my nearest Get into Rugby club?

The Rugby AU Find a Club portal is a quick and easy way to locate and connect with your local Get into Rugby Club. Search by postcode, suburb or directly by your preferred club's name.

How do I register my child for Get into Rugby?

Registering for Get into Rugby is completed via the Rugby Xplorer app or portal. Download the Registration Guide and follow the 7 easy steps to get started.

What age does my child have to be to register for Get into Rugby?

Get into Rugby is available to participants turning 4 -7 years.

In 2025, participants will register to the following registration type based on the year of their birth:

Get into Rugby Walla

  • Turning 4: participant born in 2021
  • Turning 5: participant born in 2020

 Get into Rugby Tri Time

  • Turning 6: participant born in 2019
  • Turning 7: participant born in 2018
Can I register my child to play in U8s instead?

If your child is turning 7 (born in 2018) and ready to progress to contact rugby they may apply to participate in the Under 8 age grade (contact rugby) by undertaking the U7 to U8 dispensation procedure.

Please speak with your Competition Manager before commencing this process.

What is included in my child's registration?

To welcome the exciting introduction of Get into Rugby in 2025, all registered participants will receive their own Get into Rugby ball.

Further inclusions may be available to participants and will be at the discretion of their club. Please check with your club prior to or following registration for further information.

How and when will I receive my ball?

Participants will receive their Get into Rugby football via post. Upon registering participants will receive an email confirming their order and an expected delivery date. Please check your junk mail in the event that no confirmation is received.

Fulfilment of footballs recently commenced in February 2025. Due to the overwhelming number of registrations during the early pre-season period, please allow a minimum of 3 weeks from the date of registration. Apologies for the wait and any inconvenience, we promise it will be worth it!

Are there any resources to support my child's understanding and development?

Yes, plenty! Check out the Get into Rugby Activities page for access to more than 40 activity cards and videos. These are a great way for participants to develop their core Rugby skills and can be easily modified for practice at home in the backyard.

Can I purchase additional items?

Yes, you can. Additional items including Tri Tag Rugby belts, balls, and coaching equipment are available via the Rugby Australia Club Shop.

What is contact-readiness?

Contact Readiness refers to activities with a focus on introducing participants to, and building confidence in, contact scenarios including learning to fall and tackle safely.

Designed specifically for Get into Rugby Tri Time participants, Contact Readiness activities are an important component in supporting participants’ readiness for Junior Rugby.

What is Tri Tag Rugby?

Tri Tag Rugby is Rugby Australia's official non-contact format.

Tri Tag Rugby uses an innovative three-tag stretchable tagging belt to simulate match play in a safe, non-contact environment, providing a softer introduction to the game whilst supporting participant skill development and understanding.

As part of Get into Rugby Tri Time, participants get to experience the fun and excitement of Tri Tag Rugby under modified rules.

How long is each session?

Each Get into Rugby session is recommended to run for 45 - 60 minutes.
