Forwards Coach, Queensland Academy Reds

Purpose

Working within the Queensland Reds Professional Rugby department and reporting to the Queensland Reds Academy Head Coach, the Queensland Reds Academy Forwards Coach will play a critical role in recruiting, developing and retaining Queensland rugby’s best developing forward talent within the Queensland Reds Academy program.

Key Accountabilities

Lead the Forwards Coaching of the Queensland Reds Academy Programs (U14-U20)

  • Ensure that alignment in forwards coaching methodology (Reds Game Model) exists between the Reds Academy program and Reds professional program
  • Implement forwards specific core skill programs throughout the Reds Academy program
  • Take an active coaching role within nominated Queensland teams within the Reds representative pathway
  • Attend all relevant matches, trainings and tournaments as outlined in the Reds Academy and National program schedule

Player Selection/Recruitment & Retention

  • Work with the Reds Academy Head of Talent Management to ensure effective, ongoing talent identification

Coaching, Learning & Development

  • Lead the development and implementation of periodised coaching and training plans
  • Coordinate and deliver team, player reviews (training and playing) and maintain records via coordinated effective systems
  • Support coach education and development for coaches working within Queensland’s Elite Development Pathways
  • Align to IPP processes for relevant Reds Academy players
  • Assist with coaching the Reds men’s program when available

National Program Alignment

  • Support coaching within National programs when available
  • Maintain all reporting and deliverables in line with obligations within the national high-performance agreement
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the national academy staff

Organisation Contribution

  • Be available to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of media
  • Support the Queensland Reds/Queensland Rugby Union with relevant appearances and presentations when available

Capabilities, Experience & Qualification Requirements
  • Passion for the development of rugby players
  • Outstanding and proven ability as a forwards coach at an elite level
  • Industry education and accreditation
    • Level 2 and Smart Rugby
    • Level 3-4 coaching accreditation is desirable
  • Excellent understanding of the components that contribute to a high performing rugby program
  • Strong ability to collaborate
  • Excellent people management and communication skills
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include weekends
  • Ability to travel internationally and interstate
