Marketing Manager (Men's RWC 2027)

The Rugby World Cup Australia Local Operating Company (LOC) is searching for a highly capable, innovative and passionate Marketing Manager to join our team!

The Marketing Manager will play a key role in delivering the brand and digital marketing strategy for Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 (RWC 2027). This position will be responsible for supporting the development and leading the implementation of the RWC 2027 marketing strategy and end to end marketing activities to maximise promotion and ticket sales of RWC 2027. This role will be a key member of the Marketing and Communications team, who will be collectively striving to achieve the Tournament KPI’s across attendance, viewership and engagement.

About the role
  • Work closely with the World Rugby (WR) Global Marketing & Content teams to devise and implement marketing, advertising and digital content strategies designed to grow brand awareness and digital engagement, and maximise ticket sales in all host cities
  • Work closely with the Global and LOC Ticketing teams to deliver the tournament sales and engagement plan
  • Implement marketing strategies and collateral designed to grow brand awareness, maximise event attendance in all host cities and enhance online viewership
  • Manage advertising and promotional programs to ensure that RWC 2027 is promoted in an appropriate manner via efficient and effective media channels
  • Manage brand standards for all the RWC 2027 functional areas to ensure consistent and professional positioning of RWC 2027 and its brand portfolio
  • Work closely with the General Manager – Marketing & Communications to manage the marketing budget and drive efficiencies across all marketing programs
  • Lead the marketing strategy locally, pushing the envelope with new and innovative trends in the digital and technology spaces
  • Manage the digital and CRM marketing strategy, with an innovative approach to promotion and content in the digital space
  • Proactively develop, track, analyse and report on marketing and promotional activity, adjusting campaigns as required
  • Work very closely with the Communications and the Activations teams to generate content for websites and social media channels to engage fans and maximise engagement across all key media and event milestone moments
  • Work with WR and the LOC Commercial team to support the delivery of sponsors' promotional programs in line with contract benefits, including activation opportunities
  • Manage a range of suppliers and agencies to deliver cost effective and proficient marketing and content services
  • Work with event stakeholders (including Host Cities and Rugby Australia) to leverage existing marketing channels and events activations

About you
  • You have proven experience and demonstrated success working in consumer and digital marketing, with a record of delivering customer and stakeholder results in a competitive marketplace You have proven experience supporting the successful delivery of revenue/ticketing projects
  • You’re an innovative thinker, with a demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic above and below the line brand and marketing plans
  • You have strong data analysis skills to identify trends and opportunities
  • You have tertiary qualifications in Marketing
  • You are an excellent communicator, highly personable and can build strong relationships with colleagues and a diverse range of stakeholders quickly
  • You have the proven ability to collaborate with colleagues to effectively deliver on mutual objectives
  • You have strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and help drive a positive organisational culture that enables others to perform at their best
  • You have meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and multitask, and remain calm under pressure
  • You are adept at working under pressure in a fast-paced environment, delivering work to deadlines and honouring commitments
  • You are flexible to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on event schedules

All revenue generated by Men’s RWC 2027 will be reinvested in the sport, supporting World Rugby’s global growth ambition, its 133 member unions and six regional associations.

Rugby World Cup is one of the biggest sporting and entertainment brands in the world and the dual men’s and women’s hosting model creates a transformative opportunity to showcase the very best of rugby and Australia to an unprecedented global audience.

RWC 2027 tournament will be a nationwide celebration of the sport, its values and Australia’s cities, culture and people, engaging new audiences and inspiring a new generation of fans and players. In Australia, the tournament is expected to generate $1.3B in direct visitor expenditure across Australia from more than 250,000 international visitors and inject a further $80m into the Australia economy as a result of hosting in 2027 alone.

Whilst the LOC has carriage of both the 2027 and 2029 RWC’s, all roles are being recruited on the basis of working to deliver 2027, with a contract end date reflective of the successful conclusion of 2027. All roles within the LOC will be reviewed at the appropriate point in time to determine whether they will be extended to cover 2029 and to suit the needs of the business at that time.

Flexible working

The role offers hybrid working during the initial phases of planning, noting that as the event draws near the role will be required to be full time in the office integrating with the rest of the team. The current planning for 2025 & 2026 is based on:

  • 3 x core office days – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • 2 x flexible days, where you can work from home if you prefer (Monday & Friday)
