Clubs, Volunteers and Staff
Rugby Australia recognises the tremendous work clubs and their volunteers and staff carry out on a regular basis in delivering rugby to children and young people across the country.
We also recognise the important role you have in protecting their welfare and wellbeing. To help you better understand your safeguarding responsibilities, the below guidance notes are available:
Information on responsibilities when it comes to transporting children to and from rugby activities, and what can be expected from parents
As well as these documents, you can also visit Club Hub. Club Hub is an online resource to help Australian community rugby clubs improve administration and governance by sharing knowledge and experiences. Please explore the site to find everything you need to manage, support and grow your club and its people. You can visit Club Hub, here: https://clubhub.rugby/
The Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) offers some great resources and information on how to support a child-safe approach in your workplace and/or club. Rugby Australia is not accredited with the ACF however fully supports the work they do in safeguarding and child safety. Please see below examples of child-friendly posters you can use around your workplace and/or rugby club.
The eSafety Commissioner also offers great advice to clubs, volunteers and staff regarding online safety. Clubs are well-placed to offer advice to parents and children on how to keep safe online, and we would encourage you to read their resources, which you can find on the eSafety Commissioner's website.
Remember, clubs and their volunteers and staff are bound to the obligations and procedures described in Rugby Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy and the Code of Conduct.
If a complaint ever arises at your club, and you’re unsure of how to manage it, please contact your Member Union for assistance.
