Griffith University win 2018 Aon University Sevens Series as they claim final leg

Griffith University has won the 2018 Aon University Sevens Series after winning the Gold Medal Match at the University of Adelaide against the University of Queensland on Sunday afternoon.

The win was Griffith University’s third Gold medal win of the Series, meaning that they topped the ladder on 94 points.

Griffith University defeated the University of Queensland in the Final 26-19, to ensure their third Gold Medal win in a row.

Griffith University Head Coach Moana Virtue said: “I’m really proud of the girls, the way they have trained and conducted themselves across the whole series has been fantastic and the win today is a good reward for everything they have done.

“We have been working hard all year and have a good balance between senior and younger players that worked hard for each other.

“It’s been a fantastic year for Women’s Rugby and I’m really looking forward to how it continues to grow over the coming years.”

In the other results of the day the University of Sydney took out the bronze medal after they defeated tournament hosts, University of Adelaide 14-10.

In front of a vocal crowd, the Adelaide Romas were unable to match the Sydney side across the whole 14 minutes.

In the battle for Fifth Place, the University of Tasmania fell to Macquarie University 24-19, ensuring that Macquarie University finished their 2018 campaign in third place.
