Animal Walks
Description
Assemble two lines of cones approximately 10 metres apart with participants standing shoulder-to-shoulder along one line.
On the Coach's signal, participants move from one line to the other by imitating the movement pattern of an animal e.g. ‘Wallaby’, ‘Crab’, ‘Elephant’.
To support participant understanding, first demonstrate the different movement patterns.
Equipment
10 x cones
Coaching Outcome
Participants learn to move their bodies in different ways whilst warming up in this fun activation game.
Change It
- Develop ball familiarity by asking participants to carry a rugby ball while performing each movement.
- Alter the space between the two lines of cones so that participants move over shorter or longer distances.
- Change the call of an animal movement without notice to encourage participants to listen carefully.
- Encourage participants to suggest their own animal movements.
Check for Understanding
- Why do we need to move in different ways when playing Rugby?
- In what ways do we move our bodies when playing Rugby?
