Standing Wrestle and Roll

Description

Group participants in pairs, with one participant holding a ball.

On the Coach's signal, participants must hold onto the ball whilst their partner attempts to wrestle it from them.

Challenge participants to see how long they can hold onto the ball. If a participant successfully wrestles the ball from their partner, both participants swap roles and the game resumes.

Equipment
  • 1 x ball per pair

Coaching Outcome

Participants develop an understanding of how to position and move their body to generate resistance and force in this safe and fun introduction to contact.

Change It
  • Start participants on their knees and encourage them to work to stand up.
  • Starting participants on their knees, remove the ball and make it a competition to get the other participant on their back.

Check for Understanding
  • Why is it important to practice contact?
  • What can we do with our bodies to help wrestle the ball away from an opponent?
  • What parts of our body do we need to activate to be successful in this activity?
