Ball Familiarisation
Description
Participants spread out within a grid with a ball each and begin to move around.
Responding to the Coach’s signal, participants perform different skills and movements that incorporate a Rugby ball including place and pick up, passing in any direction to another participant, scoring a try, and pop passing.
Equipment
- 9 x cones
- 1 x ball per participant
Coaching Outcome
Participants develop ball familiarity and control in this self-paced skill game.
Change It
- Incorporate more dynamic Rugby skills and movements e.g. 'prawn position‘.
- Alter the size of the grid so that participants develop their evasion and agility skills.
Check for Understanding
- What different skills did we practice in the activity?
- How can these skills help us when playing Rugby?
- How can we make sure that we do not run into other players?
