Cross the Creek
Description
Assemble two lines of cones in a 'V' shape and group participants in pairs.
Each pair must make their way down their line passing the ball to one another. The further down the line that the pair progresses, the further apart they become, and the longer the pass that is required.
If at any stage a ball is dropped, the pair must return to the beginning of the line and start again.
Equipment
- 10 x cones
- 1 x ball per pair
Coaching Outcome
Participants learn to form a ‘W’ with their hands when catching the ball, to point their hands towards their target when passing, and to use their bodies to generate momentum in this challenging catch and pass game.
Change It
- Set a time limit and see how many times pairs can reach the end of the ‘creek’ without dropping the ball.
- Assemble a ‘creek’ that gets wider, then smaller, and wider again.
Check for Understanding
- Where do our hands need to finish when we pass the ball?
- What shape do our hands need to make when catching the ball?
- What can we do to pass the ball a longer distance?
