Flying V
Description
Divide participants into two lines and assemble them in the shape of a 'V'.
The two lines compete with the other to pass a ball down the line to the apex of the 'V'.
Upon receiving the ball, the last participants in each line run forward and score a try. After scoring, the participants restart the activity at the head of their line, with all participants shifting down one place until everyone has had the opportunity to score.
Equipment
- 1 x cone per participant
- 2 x balls
Coaching Outcome
Participants learn to form a ‘W’ with their hands when catching the ball, and to point their hands towards their target when passing in this fun catch and pass game.
Change It
- Alter the distance between participants to focus on longer or shorter passes.
- Require participants to perform a ‘kick and chase’ before scoring a try.
- Set a time limit and see how many tries each team can score before time runs out.
Check for Understanding
- Where do our hands need to finish when we pass the ball?
- What shape do our hands need to make when catching the ball?
- How do we hold the ball when running with it?
