Pass and Duck

Description

Line up participants in groups of four or more, with one participant standing two steps in front facing the group and holding a ball. Upon the Coach's signal, the participant facing the group passes the ball to the first person in line. The receiver then returns the pass and ducks down. Participants continue passing the ball over each other's heads until the last person in line catches it, runs to the front, and begins the process again.

Equipment
  • 6 x cones
  • 1 x ball per group

Coaching Outcome

Participants learn to form a ‘W’ with their hands when catching the ball, to point their hands towards their target when passing, and to use their bodies to generate momentum in this fun catch and pass game.

Change It
  • Alter the distance between participants to focus on longer or shorter passes.
  • When the ball gets to the end, the participant at the end of the line must run through and score a try prior to the activity restarting.

Check for Understanding
  • Where do our hands need to finish when we pass the ball?
  • What shape do our hands need to make when catching the ball?
  • What can we do to pass the ball a longer distance?
