Passing Overs and Unders
Description
Line participants up in groups of four or more. On the Coach's signal, the participant at the head of the line passes the ball over their head to the participant behind them who in turn passes the ball between their legs to the participant behind them. This process repeats all the way through to the last participant in line, who then runs forward to the front of the line and restarts the process. The activity concludes when all participants have had a turn at the front of the line.
Equipment
- 6 x cones
- 1 x ball per group
Coaching Outcome
Participants learn to catch and pass the ball in two hands, and work as a team in this fun and competitive catch and pass game.
Change It
- Develop participant ball familiarity and distribution by adding more than one ball.
- On the signal, "swap", participants change movements, with those passing over, now passing under, and those passing under, now passing over.
- When the ball gets to the end, the participant at the end of the line must run through and score a try prior to the activity restarting.
Check for Understanding
- What can we do to move the ball as quickly as possible down the line?
- When we catch the ball, what shape do our hands need to make?
