Score the Try and Pop Race
Description
Set up two lines approximately 20 metres apart and assemble participants in groups of three.
The first participant from each group runs forward and on the Coach’s signal, “tackle”, fall to the ground and ‘score the try’. On the ground, the participant then pops onto their side and pop passes to the next participant who repeats the process.
The activity concludes once all three participants have ‘scored a try’.
Equipment
- 8 x cones
- 1 x ball per group
Coaching Outcome
Participants develop ball control and distribution whilst working as a team in this fun skill game.
Change It
- Develop participants' communication skills by having them call “drop” when a participant falls to the ground and “pop” when receiving the ball.
Check for Understanding
- When we get tackled what do we need to do with our body?
- What part of our teammate's body should we pop the ball to?
- Why do we want to be close to our teammate when they are tackled?
