Insurance FAQs
This page will answer questions regarding the National Risk Management and Insurance Programme for the 2025 season.
Will the National Player Fees change for the 2025 Season?
- Yes, Season Player Fees for contact rugby formats will increase by a maximum of $4.00 for the 2025 season.
- Lower increases will also apply for Monthly and Weekly registrations.
- Training Only registrations will increase by $5.00. Conversions will still apply for registered Training Only participants who subsequently register for a Season in any format.
- Event Player Fees (per player per day) will continue to mirror the Weekly rates.
- 2025 National Player Fees for each Game Type and Duration can be found here.
Why are some of the National Player Fees increasing in 2025?
- Increases due to inflation and the liability premium fees charged by our insurers (including applicable taxes) have led to the increase in National Player Fees for 2025.
Are there any changes to cover for 2025?
- There is no reduction in cover under the Personal Injury Policy for 2025. Players with an active registration in the period 18 December 2024 to 16 December 2025 will have coverage under the Risk Management and Insurance Programme during their active registration period.
- All players should register (minimum "Training Only") prior to commencing training to avoid any issues if they need to submit an insurance claim.
What does the National Player Fee actually contribute to?
- The National Player Fee contributes to the Rugby Australia Risk Management and Insurance Programme, including:
- The Insurance Policies for all members, inclusive of applicable taxes; and
- The Australian Rugby Aggregate Deductible Fund which provides funding of injury claims that fall within the parameters of the insurance policy taken out for the benefit of members.
- More information on the Risk Management and Insurance Programme can be found here.
Who is covered by insurance to play in a match (trial, pre-season and/or competition)?
- Only participants who have an active player registration corresponding to the game format they are playing, i.e. XVs, 10s, 7s, Touch 7s and/or Tri Tag, are covered.
- A Training Only player registration is for a player wishing to train only, and are not covered for matches until they register to the corresponding game format as a Player.
