NSW Waratahs v ACT Brumbies

U16s

The NSW Waratahs have signalled their intentions for back-to-back titles with a 50-5 win over the ACT Brumbies

Winger Tom Hartman was the chief destroyer, crossing for four in a dominant display to kick off the tournament.

Hartman had a hat-trick in the first half as the Waratahs raced out to a 33-0 lead at the break.

He scored his opener after just eight minutes, sprinting away after prop Lewis Wilson’s charge down.

The winger added his second shortly afterwards to give NSW a 19-0 lead after just 11 minutes before completing his hat-trick on the half hour.

Marcus Mastro’s effort from close sealed the near-perfect half for the Waratahs as they ran away with the game.

Vice captain Justice Taumoepeau continued the onslaught just after the break before Hartman’s fourth and a late five-pointer for replacement Callum Grantham sealed maximum points.

U19s

The ACT Brumbies have stunned the NSW Waratahs with a 24-22 win to kick off the Super Rugby U19s competition.

Playmaker Cullen Grey proved the hero, kicking a 45 metre penalty after the siren to win the game at Viking Park.

The defending champion Waratahs signalled their intentions early when Jackson Stiel crossed in the ninth minute.

However, the Brumbies were up for the fight and responded after centre Eli Sagala ran a great line to cross under the posts.

The Waratahs’ dominant scrum started to dictate the game, allowing number eight Philip Talaileva to power his way over.

Despite this, the Brumbies kept in the game, answering the try early in the second half before the Waratahs hit back via scrum-half Billy Dickens.

Fullback Angus Staniforth’s late effort edged the Brumbies in front, only for Oliver Schmude's 75th-minute penalty goal to seemingly seal the win for the visitors.

All the Waratahs had to do was win the scrum and kick it out. However, one final push won the penalty and delivered the hosts a chance to win the game, with flyhalf Gray emerging as the hero with the long-range penalty after the siren to seal the win.

Western Force v Melbourne Rebels

U16s

The Western Force have powered their way to a 32-19 victory over the Melbourne Rebels.

The hosts started strong as centre Peni Naqau set the tempo with a great run, eventually leading to captain Tamarangi Tunui diving over for the opener for the Force.

Both teams traded chances before Force winger Dermott Arthy created something out of nothing, beating his man with electric footwork before burning the fullback for a great solo try.

The Rebels were eventually rewarded for their first-half pressure at half-time when Max Tokava’s cross-field kick found Sonix Aiga in the corner for their opening try.

The Force stayed calm and eventually found a response as fullback Harry Oddy found a way over the line in the corner.

This failed to damper the visitors’ spirit as both teams traded tries, the highlight being a juking effort from Rebels centre Jeremiah Faasavalu to collect the chip kick and beat two for a great solo effort.

With the game on the line, Naqau stepped up and proved to be the game-winner.

He took the defence on as they cleared their line, palming off two as he dived over to secure the win.

U19s

A stunning showing from flanker Dylan Bronlund has delivered the Western Force a clean sweep over the Melbourne Rebels.

Bronlund scored four tries in the 48-5 thumping of the Rebels to climb to the top of the ladder.

The flowing locks of Bronlund were on full display as he opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing off in the corner after a great ball from Ollie Cummins.

He went over for his second six minutes later, emerging in support after winger Tiam Toufan beat several defenders.

The dream half continued for the UWA product when he barged over for his hat-trick.

Lachlan Morgan-DeGaris got the Rebels on the board with a great individual try but it was all the Force and they ran away with the game in the second half, headlined by Bronlund’s fourth.

The flanker latched onto an intercept just outside the Rebels’ 22 and just had enough pace to finish off a stunning 45 minutes.

Kauri Tipene-Grace got in on the action with a great finish in the corner before a double to Vaughn Robson sealed the win
